Tomorrow
- Binding data to applications Sun and the XML Apache group are working on various projects using the W3C's XML Schemas to bind XML data to Java objects, using schema processing as a filter to simplify the work the applications has to do on incoming data.
- Data modeling as discipline Data modeling is already an important part of relational database development, but it hasn't really taken off in more document-centric fields. If XML Schemas provides enough power to enough different fields to inspire people to use it, data modeling may spread beyond the relational world and large-scale document management fields.
- Clear subsets? It's not entirely clear that this is in the works, but there are rumors of an upcoming modularization project that would decompose XML Schemas much the same way XHTML is breaking down HTML.
