Schemas' Place in the XML Food Chain

How much does the W3C name matter? So far the XML community has given the W3C a prominent place in the development of XML. While the W3C has had its critics, Schemas is the first spec the W3C has produced that is encountering competition from something other than its SGML parent. The XML community is an unruly bunch - voting with feet has yet to get started.
Complexity and power XML Schemas' complexity is pretty well accepted, even by its promoters. The real question, which can only be answered as the spec stabilizes and more implementations emerge, is how well the complexity/power ratio works out. Schemas are far more complex than DTDs, the tool they hope to replace, and it isn't clear if their added power is enough.
At home with the OOP world? Developers used to working in an object-oriented environment may find themselves at home in XML Schemas. While some purists may not like certain features of Schemas (equivalence classes, or the extra pieces for uniqueness), a solid grounding in the world of objects can make XML Schemas much more comfortable.
